Out-of-Province Patient

Don’t let distance stop you from walking freely

The Clinique de chirurgie du pied de Montréal has been providing specialized care for foot pathologies to Canadian and international patients for over 30 years. Led by Dr. Sarah Cantin-Langlois, podiatrist, she uses modern techniques to ensure optimal results for her patients.
Thanks to our experience, we have developed a strategy that facilitates patients coming from outside Quebec who need surgery, optimizing their surgical journey and ensuring a safe and well-managed recovery.

How to plan your surgery at the Clinic

Here are the steps to follow:

Step 1: The Surgical Consultation

Contact us by phone or via our website to schedule a consultation. This consultation is virtual and will take place with Dr. Sarah Cantin-Langlois, podiatrist. The purpose will be to discuss the issue related to your foot.

A brief medical questionnaire will be sent to you when you schedule your appointment. It is essential that you complete it before your virtual consultation.

Step 2: Provide your imaging exams

Send us RECENT X-RAYS on a disc (CD or DVD). A link for downloading images in DICOM format is also accepted.

  • We will need an x-ray of the affected foot, in a standing position, with anteroposterior, lateral, and oblique views. We can also provide a prescription if needed.
  • We also encourage you to send us any other relevant recent imaging exams (MRI, scan, etc.). Do not send an MRI exam without a standard x-ray. For any MRI exams, include the radiologist’s report with the images on CD.

Address for sending X-rays:
Foot Surgery Clinic of Montreal
5065, De Maisonneuve Blvd West
Montreal (Quebec) H4A 1Y9

Email: info@chirurgiedupied.ca

Once we have received all the information, we will confirm an appointment for a videoconference and send you the link for the meeting.

Step 3: Treatment Plan and Deposit

After determining the necessary type of surgery based on your situation, we will send you a personalized and detailed treatment plan according to your pathology.

To secure a surgery date, we will ask you to make a deposit of $250. This can be made by Interac transfer to interac@chirurgiedupied.ca, or by credit card by contacting us.

Step 4: Plan your visit to Montreal

We are available to assist you, if needed.

Here’s an overview of a typical schedule once your surgery date is determined:

1. Plan your trip

Book your flight or ground transportation to arrive in Montreal at least one day before the scheduled surgery date (this will be set three to four weeks before the procedure).

2. The day before surgery

The day before your surgery, you must come to the clinic to meet the surgeon and nurse.

3. Accommodation

The night before the surgery and a few nights after the surgery, you will need to stay in a hotel close to the clinic. To make your stay more comfortable, we have partnered with a hotel located less than 15 minutes by car from our clinic. This partnership allows you to take advantage of special rates for your accommodation. The hotel offers regular rooms adapted for people with reduced mobility or suites equipped with a kitchen, giving you the flexibility to prepare your meals as needed.

5. The surgery day

On the morning of your surgery, arrive at the clinic at the time communicated to you a few days before the procedure.

6. After the surgery

After the surgery, you will return to the hotel, and a follow-up call will be made to ensure your comfort.

7. Recovery and Departure

You will have a follow-up appointment 2 to 3 days after your procedure. This visit allows us to change your dressing and ensure you understand the postoperative instructions before you begin your return journey home.

8. Travel after surgery

It is safe to fly after your surgery, with some precautions that will be discussed as needed. For long journeys by plane or car, we recommend getting up and walking regularly (every hour).

Step 5: Recovery at Home

Here are some tips for patients living outside the province of Quebec:

  • Plan an appointment with a healthcare professional 14 days after your surgery. They can remove your dressings and stitches. If in doubt, they can contact us at any time for advice.
  • A virtual follow-up appointment will be scheduled after your stitches are removed.
  • Follow the instructions and perform the postoperative exercises mentioned in the document provided to you.
  • Ask your general practitioner to renew your prescriptions, if needed.
  • Purchase any required equipment (crutches, cane, booster seat, etc.) from a pharmacy or specialized store.
  • A follow-up visit should take place four to six weeks after your surgery. This visit must be done in person at our Montreal clinic.

We look forward to helping you regain the quality of life you deserve. Do not hesitate to contact us at any time if you need further advice.
